The caller asked for the householder by name, I asked who was calling. He said he was calling on behalf of he Government and I asked for the name of his firm and he replied a number of times that he worked for the government. I replied "how do I know that". Finally he said he worked for a government finance department and that I was owed money due to bank overcharging and he wanted to send me a cheque. I replied government departments do not work that way and instructed him to write to me with details. I believe that this is an attempted FRAUD and his next step would have been a request for bank details. From the comments above there appears to be a trend for the caller to hang up if a male answers..
